We love creating vintage-inspired jewelry- particularly custom art deco engagement rings. Art deco style jewelry combines the flair of vintage with one-of-a-kind designs that make a statement.  These are not your typical seen-that-before, off-the-shelf pieces of jewelry. Our hand-crafted custom rings, necklaces, and earrings are pieces of art. Attention-grabbing, mouth-dropping jewelry that people will talk about for days after a social gathering.

What Is Art Deco Jewelry?

Now to answer the question, “what exactly is art deco jewelry?”.  The art deco period commenced at the end of the art nouveau period in 1910 and lasted until 1935 as rumblings of World War 2 started. Out were the intricate, nature-inspired, pretty-for-the-sake-of-pretty art nouveau designs, and in came big, bold geometrical designs aimed at making a statement. Although intricate filigree was a common element in art deco styles, rarely would you have seen a setting one would dare call “dainty”. Unlike art nouveau’s yellow gold, the art deco period’s metal of choice was either white gold or platinum with platinum being the most popular in high-end jewelry.

Art deco jewelry designs were geometrical, and their gemstones were cut specifically for the design instead of intrigrating common size and shapes of diamonds and gemstones. The Asscher cut, emerald cut, baguette cut, and other geometric diamond and gemstone cuts were mainstays. As was the use of halos of stones around a main diamond and setting stone pavé style. It was common practice for colored gemstones like emeralds, blue sapphires, and rubies to appear along side of large diamonds. This contrast in color added to the desired impact and statement of the piece. Thus, if a ring has a geometrical design with custom cut gemstones set in white gold or platinum, it most likely is an art deco style ring.

Art Deco Rings We’ve Created

One of our clients wanted an art deco engagement ring with an emerald cut emerald center stone surrounded by diamonds. What better way to do this than in true art deco fashion?!  A traditional octagonal shaped, vertically set emerald was just too… well, traditional and ordinary. Thus, we custom cut the emerald to a 7×7 mm square and set it on its side to form a “diamond-shape”. To keep with the step-cut theme of the emerald we chose straight baguette diamonds for the halo. We custom cut the rectangular straight baguettes to fit wflush next to each other in a square octagon pattern. To bring it all together, the ring’s galley continues the geometric theme with lattice metal work and two round diamonds set in the band on each side of the halo. And, again in true art deco fashion, we crafted the setting in platinum.

Another example of art deco jewelry that we recently created was duplicating a client’s ring. The stand out feature of the ring is a solid piece of lapis lazuli encompassing the center cluster of diamonds. This also proved to be the most complicated aspect of replicating the piece.  Our search for lapis lazuli with a similar blue-tone and matrix pattern lead us to India. After flying it back to the states, we custom cut the stone – not easy because of how soft it is- to the original’s shape and style. With the hard part behind us, we set the stones. The client elected to change the original ring’s large diamonds to colorless moissanite while keeping genuine diamonds for the smaller stones. The ring’s mix of white and yellow gold veers from traditional art deco styling; however,  the original designer most likely selected yellow gold because it compliments the yellow matrix in the lapis lazuli.

The unthinkable has happened: your ring was stolen. After contacting the police, visiting local pawn shops, alerting your friends on Facebook, and looking on eBay, it seems like your jewelry is gone forever. Now what do you do? One option is to have your engagement ring, wedding band, and/or piece of family jewelry recreated to look just like the original. Another option is to design a new style ring or piece to take the original’s place. We can help with both of these options.

Replacement With Insurance

Know Your Policy Type
If your jewelry was insured, contact your insurance agent/company to let them know that the theft occurred. This will start the claims process. Most policies are structured with either “cash value” or “replacement cost” coverage. Cash value policies take depreciation into consideration when replacing your stolen property. Generally this means you will receive the fair market value less normal wear and tear and any other depreciating factors the insurance company decides to include. Replacement cost policies, on the other hand, provide you with the amount needed to replace the item you insured. (See Insurance Information Institute for more information)
 Choose Bespoke Fine Jewelry
If you have a “replacement cost” policy, the insurance company may want you to settle for a ring that looks only somewhat like your original. You should not have to settle for second best. Don’t be afraid to insist that you want the ring to look the same as the one stolen. This is where Bespoke Fine Jewelry comes in. We can replicate the original item from pictures and your descriptions of it. (Jewelry appraisals are the best!)  Many insurance companies allow you to select your own jeweler for the replacement item. Thus, simply let your insurance know that you wish to work with us.
Create Your Jewelry
Send us pictures of the jewelry item(s) along with any description that you remember. This may include your finger size, type of metal (sterling silver, 10K/14K/18K yellow/white/rose gold, palladium, or platinum), and size, type, and quality of diamonds/gemstones. If you have a diamond certificate, appraisal, or original bill of sale that lists a description of the ring or piece, send that too. We will provide you an estimate for the duplication to send to your insurance company. We will then work with you, and your insurance, to recreate your beloved jewelry.
You Have Options
If you want to change the design from the original, no worries. We can do that too! Many insurance companies let you select a different design than the original as long as it is valued at or below your policy limit. If the new design is more than your policy limit, you simply pay the difference.

Replacement Without Insurance

What happens if you didn’t have your stolen jewelry insured? No problem! Bespoke Fine Jewelry can still create a replica of your jewelry from pictures and your description. The process is similar to the one described above with insurance. The main difference is you don’t have to get the insurance company’s approval for anything. This allows you the freedom to keep the jewelry’s original look and style or change it as much as you like.
Getting Started
Send us pictures of the jewelry item(s) along with any description that you remember. This may include your finger size, type of metal (sterling silver, 10K/14K/18K yellow/white/rose gold, palladium, or platinum), and size, type, and quality of diamonds/gemstones. If you have a diamond certificate, appraisal, or original bill of sale that lists a description of the ring or piece, send that too. We will provide you an estimate for the duplication.
Overview of Process
After you accept the estimate, we will send you a custom jewelry agreement to review and sign digitally. We also kindly ask for a 50% deposit due to the custom nature of the piece. The next step is creating a CAD rendering or wax model for you to view. This allows you to see what the finished item will look like and give you an opportunity to make any design changes. Upon your approval of the design, we will cast the ring in the metal of your choosing and set your selected diamonds/gemstones. At the piece’s completion, you will receive pictures of it along with an online invoice for the balance. Upon payment we will ship your piece to you.

A Real Life Example

Imagine the devastation of realizing your engagement ring was just stolen. That is how a recent client felt after coming back from a routine trip to her tanning salon, but this time without her engagement ring. She took off her ring while tanning, but forgot to pick it up off the table when finished. When she went back, it was not there. Although the salon has video proof of another customer taking the ring, this did not result in the ring being returned. Thus, the client’s mother turned to us to have her ring reproduced. She sent us a picture of the ring along with the details that she remembered: total diamond weight, metal type, and finger size. From there we got to work. We created a CAD image of the ring for her to review. Then upon her approval of the design we crafted the ring. When the daughter receive the new ring, she was thrilled at how it looked like the original one and that she can now wear her engagement ring once more!

“I highly recommend Bespoke fine Jewelry!!!! My daughter’s engagement ring was stolen which devastated her and they were able to make an amazing and exact replica of her ring!!! My daughter and I couldn’t have been more pleased!!! Jon Lintz, the customer service representative was very thorough and communicated with us often every step of the way. I rate him 5 stars as well as everyone that was involved in making my daughter’s ring!!! Super super job!!!” – Sharon Y., Morristown, TN

Costume jewelry is a wonderful way to expand your jewelry collection. You are able to get great looking, trendy jewelry without straining your bank account. But then it happens. You fall in love with a ring that is starting to turn colors.  Or, worse yet, it turns the color of your finger.  You love your ring, but not the green skin it causes. What do you do?
The Costume Jewelry Solution
A great solution is to have your fake jewelry turned into fine jewelry. We can transform most costume rings, pendants, or earrings into beautiful, long-lasting pieces of jewelry. Some of our clients decide to replicate their low-end jewelry into high-end pieces. These item will be crafted using 14K or 18K white/yellow/rose gold, platinum, or palladium and set with semi-precious,  precious gemstones, and/or diamonds. Others wish to go the more economical route of sterling silver or 10K white/yellow/rose gold with lab-created gemstones, cubic zirconia, or moissanite. (The best diamond alternative, in our opinion) No matter the materials, we will create a stunning, high quality jewelry piece that will last for years to come. Plus, no skin turning side effects!
 A Real Life Example
We recently helped a gentleman who’s girlfriend’s favorite “fake” ring was letting her down. The ring’s face was maintaining its proper silver-tone; however, the sides and bottom had changed to a copper-tone. Thus, he contacted us to have a real version of the ring created. After reviewing his material options, he decided on a rhodium plated sterling silver setting and cubic zirconia stones.  Upon receiving the ring, we created a CAD rendering. (We can also recreate most jewelry from pictures)  The image allowed him to see the finished ring’s design and provided an opportunity to make any changes. Once he approved the CAD, we crafted the new ring. Finally,  we shipped the finished ring to him.  Here are his thoughts upon receiving it:
“You did a beautiful, beautiful job in re-duplicating my girl friend’s ring… and your professional and meticulous handling of this re-creation, from our initial phone conversation to final delivery, was beyond superb. The pride of craftsmanship and work “Bespeaks” volumes about you and your company.” – Steve, Los Angeles, CA

Large emeralds are rare. Even rarer are large ones that have little visible inclusions (imperfections within the stone created while it formed in the earth). On April 25, 2017 the opportunity to purchase such a stone is presented by Guernsey auction house in New York. The auction will feature raw, cut, and set emeralds from Manuel Marcial de Gomar’s personal collection.

One of the largest emeralds for sale will the the 887 carat La Gloria (estimated to sell for $4-5 million) as well as the largest of the eleven star emeralds known to exist- the 26 ct. Marcial de Gomar Star emerald (estimate to fetch $2-3 million).

The auction will also feature emeralds set in stunning, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Examples of such finished jewelry include the versatile 889 diamond and 35 emerald Conquistadora that may be worn as either as a necklace and a tiara (estimate value of $150,000 to $250,000).

Love the color purple? Enjoy larger pieces of jewelry? Like responsibly mined, fair trade gemstones? Then amethyst is the perfect gemstone for you. Amethyst offers beautiful hues of purple along with large carat size at a relatively inexpensive price while being American mined.
Although sapphire and tanzanite come in shades of purple, amethyst is the most common gemstone associated with the color purple. The deeper the purple the more valuable the stone with the finest quality being a strong reddish purple or purple that is consistent throughout the entire stone. Don’t be fooled by gemstones called “green amethyst”. Amethyst by pure definition is a purple variety of quartz. Thus, if you see “green amethyst”, it really is mislabeled green quartz. It still may be a very nice gemstone, but the labeling is misleading.
Once as expensive as diamonds or emeralds, amethyst is now very affordable. The main reason for the shift from high value to common man affordable came when a large deposit was discovered in Brazil in the 1700s. Now the price per carat only increases slightly with carat weight allowing you to have stunning, large size amethysts without breaking the bank.
One of the downsides is that amethyst is easy to grown in man-made environments opening the market to be flooded with synthetic, low value gemstones. One solution to ensuring that you are actually buying a natural amethyst is to purchase Montana amethyst. These American mined stones are natural and beautiful that have been responsibly mined and cut and ensure fair trade. We would be happy to assist you in creating a stunning semi-custom or custom jewelry piece with a Montana amethyst as the focal point.

You’ve probably heard of a pavé setting before, but what is a French cut pavé setting?

French cut pavé or French pavé (also sometimes seen as French set) is a way of setting accent diamonds to achieve the maximum amount of light exposure to the stone which enhances the diamond’s sparkle.

Traditional French cut pavé is formed when the diamond setter creates a “V” shape in the band’s metal. A more modern rendition of the French cut pavé is to use a “U” shape cut to form the diamond’s setting. Both cut shapes minimize the amount of precious metal seen giving the appearance of a solid row of diamonds while increasing the diamond’s light exposure.

Here is an example of a custom traditional French cut pavé engagement ring that we created:

Here are some examples of  our modern U shape French cut pavé rings:

Do you have a picture of an engagement ring or other jewelry item that you love, but don’t know where to purchase it? Or maybe you want to make some slight changes to the design? We can help! We will work with you to replicate* the engagement ring or other jewelry piece to your desired wishes. Simply submit pictures and/or a description of what you would like through our contact page, and we will respond with a quote.

A great example of this is a recent client who had pictures of a pear engagement ring style that he liked. He already had the center stone, so he wanted us to make an engagement ring setting based off pictures he sent us. After discussing the precious metal type and finger size, we gave him a quote. Upon his acceptance of the quote and receipt of his deposit, we created and had the ring ready for delivery in 6 days!

In the client’s own words, “The ring turned out beautifully. I could not have had a better experience.”
(Read his whole review here).

One of your rings keeps losing a gemstone.  Worst yet is that it’s not any old ring; it’s your favorite ring- your Mother’s Ring with all your kid’s birthstones. You want to keep wearing it, but it looks funny with a stone missing. What do you do?

You could decide to simply have the stone replaced with a new one. The problem with this solution is that there is a reason the stone fell out in the first place. If you have lost a diamond or gemstone from the same ring more than once, I would encourage you to look into a new style of setting.

A client recently brought in his wife’s Mother’s Ring that has lost stones over the years. He didn’t want her to have to keep replacing the gemstones, so he asked us to create a new redesigned ring to protect the stones from falling out. We selected a style where the birthstones are channel set. A channel setting is one of most secure and protective setting options since a “channel” is formed by two strips of precious metal. These two strips have grooves in them that hold the gemstones or diamonds securely in place. Unlike the client’s prior setting that was prong set, the new channel setting’s walls will protect the edges of the stones from being nicked, scratched, or even the gemstone falling out in the future.

Creating a new ring with your old diamonds or gemstones is also a great opportunity to change the design. This client decided to add his and his wife’s birthstones as well as a diamond to symbolize their marriage. Below is the original ring and the new redesigned Mother’s Ring. Although the design is not drastically different the gemstones and diamond are more secure and the couple were able to add more symbolic gemstones. Best of all the client’s wife is very happy with her new ring!

Cushion cut diamond engagement rings are becoming more and more popular due to their unique shape and faceting. However, not all cushion cut diamonds are alike.

Bespoke Fine Jewelry offers cushion brilliant diamonds  which are cushion cut diamonds that have very similar faceting arrangements as round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets in the pavilion (or bottom “pointy” part) of a cushion brilliant extend from the center of the diamond outward towards the girdle (outer edge of top of diamond), resembling a star. A cushion brilliant contains larger facets and does not have a “crushed ice” look. Rather, they resemble the appearance of a round cut diamond with a pillow like or cushion shape. Now you don’t have to compromise the amazing brilliance and sparkle of a round brilliant to get the cushion shape you love.

Start designing your custom cushion brilliant engagement ring today!
